Jammeh Gives Millions to Brufut
President Yahya Jammeh on Thursday donated an amount of D2.7 million to the people of Brufut, Kombo North in the Western Region when a group of elders, led by their new Alkalo, paid him a courtesy call at his office in State House. Members of the delegation said they were there to pledge their continued loyalty and support to the Gambian leader. Part of the money, D1.7 million will go towards the construction of a new mosque for the town, and the remaining D1 million is for one of the two women’s communal gardens.
In fact the amount is just part of the total amount of over D6 million pledged to the people of the town. Last year, Jammeh donated a similar amount to the people of another Western Region town, Pirang, for the construction of a mosque. The source of the funds is unknown but many fear the monies belong to the Gambian taxpayers.
