Clarification; UDP UK is not Calling for a Citizens’ Uprising.
Mr/Madam Editor,
The sovereignty of our nation lies on her people. Therefore, the onus is on the same people to determine how best to claw back the power they lend to the party in government. Thus, it does not fall within the purview of UDP UK neither within our margin of appreciation to call for a citizens’ uprising in The Gambia. That being the case, UDP UK would like to clarify that the suggestion recently made in the media that our chapter is calling for a citizens’ uprising in The Gambia is erroneous, misleading and completely unrepresentative of our position.
If there is anything UDP UK would like to call for, it is for Gambians to turn-out en-mass and vote massively against President Jammeh in the 2011 Presidential Election. We would also like to call on them to stand up in defence of their rights and never succumb to APRC’s political tactics of intimidation and harassment which was largely responsible for the historic low voter turn-out of 2006.
