Banjul, July 21 The Gambia Journal
The second part of a documentary film titled President Jammeh’s “Breakthrough In The Cure of HIV/Aids” was launched at the Sheraton Hotel in Brufut, near Banjul, on Friday 20th July. The film which was produced by Secretary of State Nenneh MacDouall Gaye shows the ordeal of patients before and after “treatment” by the Gambian leader who in January of this year declared that he had been “mandated” to cure the disease. The first part of the largely sycophantic documentary, which depicted the treatment of first thirteen batch of patients was shown earlier in February of this year. Friday’s launching ceremony was attended by civil servants and top party officials and was presided over by Chief Justice Abdul Karim Savage. The film also showed interviews with some Gambian doctors who hailed Jammeh for the so-called “breakthrough. Speaking to reporters, Mrs. MacDouall-Gaye, who is a former journalist, said she got her inspiration from watching President Jammeh treating the patients “with such humility.” The one hour film shows patients narrating their ordeal before and after the treatment. Some of the patients said to have been treated by the Gambian leader have been dying in spite of claims of their cure, The Gambia Journal can confirm. Patients volunteering for the treatment are compelled to stop taking anti-retroviral and other “western” drugs and the treatment has caused lot of controversy within overseas medical circles.
