Banjul,26th October The Gambia Journal

The Department of State for Health and Social Welfare on Friday issued a press statement calling on women with infertility problems wishing to get “treatment” from President Jammeh to go and register with the Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tamsir Mbowe.  Last week President Jammeh proclaimed that he had the “cure” for female infertility. The mercurial Gambian leader said that he could help treat women with infertility in a single month. He had been running a so-called treatment program for asthma, HIV/AIDS, hypertension, and diabetics. Several patients said to have been “cured” from HIV/AIDS have already died but Jammeh denies that they have died of the fatal disease. Patients on his herbal treatment are compelled to desist from using all “western medicine’, including antiretroviral drugs.
