President Yahya Jammeh has sacked the Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare Dr. Tamsir Mbowe, sources confirmed.

Sources at the Department of Health in Banjul said that, Dr. Mbowe’s letter was presented to him this afternoon while he was in his office.

The same source informed the Journal that Dr. Mbowe is replaced by the Director of Medical services Dr. Malick Njie of the same department.

Dr. Mbowe was appointed in late 2004 and he has been very instrumental in President Jammeh's HIV/ AIDS treatment. He is seen by many as the spokes person of the treatment.

No reason for his sacking has been advanced and up to the time of writing this report, the sacked Secretary of State could not be reached on all his phones.
