GRTS radio announced that the office of the President at State House, has declared Monday December 31st public holiday in honor of the official naming ceremony of baby Muhamed Yahya Jammeh. It is the first time the birth of a living baby is being officially celebrated in The Gambia. In the run up to the celebrations, one of our Banjul correspondents wrote, a wave of sycophancy, as never seen before, is being displayed, with prominent personalities, state departments, para-statals, private businessmen and companies and institutions compete each other in sizes of gifts and donations to President Jammeh. They have bought up all newspaper space to send congratulatory messages on the occasion.
