The trial of the embattled former Mayor of Banjul City Council, Pa Sallah Jeng, could not proceed yesterday because he did not appear in court, as he was said to be bereaved.

The trial is now slated for 31 July 2006 to be presided over by Justice Monageng of the High Court in Banjul.

Mr Jeng is facing multiple charges of criminal offence filed against him by the state. The charges against Mr Jeng include alleged misappropriation of the Council’s funds whilst in office as Mayor of Banjul City Council.
